UCAN
Pyrenees is a proud Sponsor of the UCAN Windows of Hope and contributes fresh fruits and vegetables from our farm to the UCAN Food Bank. We appreciate and support UCAN in their efforts to improve lives in Douglas and Josephine counties.

UCAN Mission Statement: Creating solutions to poverty, improving lives in our community.

Funds raised by the Windows of Hope event will be used by UCAN to provide direct services to low- income, elderly and homeless individuals and families throughout Josephine and Douglas counties. Below are examples of the amazing work UCAN does on a daily basis.

Head Start – is a comprehensive program in Douglas County assisting preschool age children and families to develop to their full potential. Our snack-pack program supplies 500 young children with food for the weekend. Without this assistance children would often spend Saturday and Sunday hungry.

Weatherization and energy assistance – many of those we serve own substandard housing with serious weatherization issues. Our weatherization staff create more energy-efficient homes as they reduce energy bills for clients. UCAN also provides energy assistance to those in need. In 2010 over 19,000 households in both counties received energy assistance, including assistance with shut-off notices that can leave parents and children without heat or lights.

Food Bank – Each year, both UCAN food banks combine to supply over 70,000 food boxes to 225,000 individuals in partnership with local food pantries, and 276,000 meals are served in community kitchens.

Homeless outreach and assistance - emergency short-term housing and support to low- income families and those that are homeless.

Programs and Services for Seniors - UCAN provides vital services to seniors and those that are disabled. These programs provide educational support and mentorship to school age children as well as companionship and assistance for seniors living alone, without family in the area.
